Wold Folk

Inspired by the Celtic and Germanic tribes that inhabited much of Western Europe, the Wold Folk have a strong connection to their homeland. At one with their land, their vast forested hills stretch for leagues, and they know each tree and stone.

History of the Wold Folk

The forest has its secrets, and the Wold Folk know each one. For ages, the Wold Folk have dwelled deep in the forests on the northern border of Olaran. The Wold Folk are descendants of a disbanded army, granted the land for their services to an early king of Olaran. They still carry the ancient, large shields of an older age, heirlooms of their military heritage. The Wold Folk have remained quiet in their woodland halls for generations, but now war has spilled into their lands as the armies of Olaran and the Kingdom of Throi contest their border - a border that includes the Wold Folk forests.

While Wold Folk warbands have not ventured into Olaran’s recent wars, their greatest warriors often join other armies to gain skill and reputation as warband leaders. Chieftain Rollo Brennus has now returned from just such a service to lead the tribe in this hour of battle.

The Wold Folk Culture and Look

Emblem: The Teal Hand of the Wold

Culture: Inspired by the Celtic and Germanic tribes that inhabited much of Western Europe, the Wold Folk have a strong connection to their homeland, which is reflected in their culture and aesthetic. They have been formed as a people by the land: Vast forested hills stretch for leagues, and they know each tree and stone. What they lack in armor, they make up for with their ferocity and teamwork in battle. Their warriors, called “Wold Raiders,” are equipped for lightning attacks in the forest and excel at harrying the enemy’s flank.

The Wold Folk faction is open to both combatant and non-combatant players.

However, all combatant players MUST have the required equipment (healers do not need weapons or armor).

Equipment: ***Please note: Unlike other factions, the Wold Folk has minimum garb requirements and is allowed a much smaller selection of armor and weapons. All members of the Wold Folk must have the required items***

Their colors are unlike any other faction. The Wold Folk are distinguished by the wearing of plaid wool garments and accessories, and their large shields. For other garments, they wear Tan, Brown, and Grey linen with the emblem of the Hand in Teal paint (Details on colors in sections below). If they wear armor, it is Germanic-style sleeveless chainmail or Lorica Hamata. They also wear round bronze or leather chest pieces and Leather or bronze bracers and greaves. They wear Celtic/Germanic-style helmets.

For weapons, they must choose either the melee or archer class.

Players who choose the melee class are limited to swords/axes that can be wielded in one hand and large rectangular scutum or elongated hexagonal shields.

*** All melee class players are required to have the following***

  1. A wool Plaid garment or accessory (such as a hood, sash, or wrap). For approved fabrics, please see the list below. To have garments made in this plaid, please email contact@fellandfair.com

  2. A properly painted (Grey with teal designs) rectangular scutum shield or a hexagonal Germanic shield.

When the beloved chieftain of the Wold Folk (or “Woldarim” as they call themselves) was slain in a sudden raider attack, the Ealdermen urgently recalled his son, Rollo Brennus, to lead their people into war. Born in the forested borders of the Wold to a lineage granted its land for military service, Rollo had spent years as a sell‑sword with the Hearthguard, earning a fierce reputation as a warrior and an experienced leader. Returning not only as a battle‑hardened commander but also secretly married to the Justicar of the Kingsmen, he brought both potential alliance and suspicion to the tribes. Though wary of the political implications of his union and the coming war, the Ealdermen ultimately accepted him—hoping his strategic prowess might defend their land swiftly and decisively, and spare the Wold from further bloodshed.
