Now he leads the Sea Lord navy in its greatest fight yet - a fight for the very survival of their nation of Throi. First journeying with the Sea Lords to Ithacus on board the Atalanta, Hvitserk Yngvarson has served in the Sea Lord fleet since the expedition to retrieve the sword of hope. The son of a tribal Chieftain, Hvitserk lives in exile from his people the Zeflings who dwell in the icy lands north of the Coldfell River. Originally just a contracted mercenary, Hvitserk quickly rose through the ranks receiving an officer's commission upon the departure from Ithacus, as well as his first command. The speedy ship “Trident” was entrusted to his command following its capture as a prize of war. Hvitserk elected to crew the Trident with fellow mercenaries and various foreign warriors, which grew to form the bulk of the Sea Lord’s elite Raiders. For his continued service and the tactical success of the Raiders, Captain Hvitserk has been elevated to the Admiral’s right hand, now serving as Commodore of the Sea Lord fleet. —- Out of game, Henry hails from WA state, and serves as an Active Duty US Army Infantry Officer. It is rumored that he sailed in far off seas as a pirate for many years afterward before returning to Throi and joining the crew of the Atalanta. In 1123 YL, he was made Captain of that ship when Admiral Kaiþera was promoted. With Hvitserk's absence from the battles of 1124 YL, Andar served as Commodore of the Fleet until his return, then resumed his role as Flank Commander. Kestrel’s new focus lies in preserving the unity of the Kingdom of Olaran; she believes that the Kingsmen, driven by their ancient code and following in the footsteps of their founders, are uniquely positioned to advise and observe the ruling nobility in this time of political turmoil. The second child of an Eo noble house, Kestrel was drawn to the honor, integrity, and dignity inherent in the order of the Kingsmen. At a young age, she left her family’s home and enrolled as a student at the Academy. While there, she developed deep friendships with her fellow students and gained a reputation as a strong warrior with a diplomatic perspective. Her passion and desire to serve drove her to excellence in both her scholastic and her martial studies (it was during her time at the academy that she befriended the Kingswoman Vinette). After her training at the Academy concluded, Kestrel served as a guard along the southern border of Olaran for several years gaining combat experience and earning the rank of Captain. Upon returning to the capital, she taught at the Academy focusing on philosophy, diplomacy, and other classes dedicated to the virtues of strength and wisdom. When her friend Vinette was granted a noble title, Kestrel offered to serve her as both guard and advisor. Realizing the dire need for an elite guard to the crown, Kestrel resurrected the long-forgotten order: The Shield of the Just. These warriors, generally called “Shields,” swore additional oaths to protect the honor, strength, and wisdom of Olaran’s ruling class while offering their lives as protection for the kingdom’s lawmakers. The Shields’ unique position on the right hand of the nobility makes discretion, discernment, and personal integrity compulsory qualities. As the captain of this group, Kestrel now serves as the primary guard to her friend, Vinette. She and her fellow knights are uniquely positioned to advise and observe the ruling nobility during this political turmoil. As tensions in Olaran’s political realm continued to escalate, she was asked to leave her position at the Academy and assume a position of Commander directly beneath Justicar Marrius. While she still maintains oversight of the Shields, she has promoted a new captain to continue the work of the guard. Her new focus lies in preserving the unity of the Kingdom of Olaran; she believes that the Kingsmen, driven by their ancient code and following in the footsteps of their founders, are uniquely positioned to advise and observe the ruling nobility in this time of political turmoil. Promoted by King Bryce to the position of Reeve in YL 1124, she continues to lead the Kingsmen with fervor and courage. While he had attended the Kingsmen Academy as a youth, he had always planned to take over the family timber business when the time came. War came to his home in the Thornwood, and honor compelled him to enlist to defend the Crown. First joining the Rangers, he didn't hesitate to join the Kingsmen when King Bryce was found to be the heir. Often times referred to as a silver fox with a silver tongue, he has used his connections from his times travelling as a timber merchant to serve as an advisor to the crown, Master of Knowing, and a professor at the Kingsmen Academy. The first king of Olaran, Alirion, brought peace and stability to his realm, but once his kingdom was consolidated, he needed to guard and protect its borders. The lawless lands between its villages, towns, and cities needed guardians, and so it was that the Rangers were established. The Rangers, overseen by a council of senior members, are handpicked for service from the ranks of the kingdom’s forces, and trained in the ways of wilderness survival and tactics. Rangers may spend a good deal of time surviving on the frontier or even in foreign territory in service to the Kingdom. These assignments can take a Ranger far and wide and last for long periods. Since Rangers spend a significant amount of time away from the major population centers of Olaran, they tend to be more in touch with the needs and struggles of the average Olar citizen. Because of this, they can tend to think of themselves as a protector of these people, sometimes more so than of the Kingdom itself. The Ranger Conclave broke with the Kingsmen in YL 1124. The camaraderie, trust, and skill that was evident among the Rangers surrounding him filled O’Dale with a sense of awe. Upon inquiring on how he could join such a group, O’Dale learned that the only ways to join were to be chosen from the the best the Olar military had to offer or to be directly invited. With this news O’Dale set out to the nearest Olar Army recruiter to prove that he was worthy to join these men and women that he revered and owed his life. After five years in the Army O’Dale received his invitation and began the process of becoming a Ranger. O’Dale was driven by his sense of duty and what he considered a debt of honor to the Rangers who had saved his life. As tensions grew between the different factions and war broke out, O’Dale’s leadership qualities helped him climb quickly through the ranks, eventually being promoted to Captain by Commander Brandis. When Brandis returned to the capital to meet with the Ranger Conclave, the role and responsibility of Commander fell to Captain O’Dale. In the chaos and discord of the rise of the Regency, Commander O’Dale looks to the future with determination, confident that his stalwart Rangers will rise to any challenge. — Dallin Rivera started attending Weekend Warrior in 2020, and assumed command of the Rangers in 2023. Jan Wolfsbane spent his youth in and around his small village of Ardmore near Millerton in the Highlands of Olaran. But, tragedy changed the course of his liife when, returning from a dignitary trip in Ravenfall with a small group (including his son Odin) a horrible scene awaited him - a smoldering ruin of homes, halls, barns, and death greeted the party. There were little signs of who the raiders may have been, and Jan frantically searched for his wife and daughter, but found no sign of them. Being trackers and huntsmen of some renown, Jan, Odin and a few other trusted companions set off in pursuit of the raiders. Along the way they met up with a patrol of Rangers of Olaran who joined the hunt. Sadly, the hunt was unsuccessful in its search for Jan’s family. But, in the end, he and Odin formed a strong bond with their new Ranger friends and, lacking purpose and direction, Jan and Odin enlisted in the Olar army and quickly received enough renown to join their friends in the Rangers where both serve to this day. Jan rose through the ranks to aid and assist his friend, Tiergan O’Dale, as the Commander of the Boar Battalion of the Rangers and as an Aide and Assistant to the Commander. Even while he works to aid the Rangers in their new bid for freedom and justice, he hopes to come across any clue as to the whereabouts of his lost wife and daughter… _ Ian Ruff attended his first Weekend Warrior Experience in 2022 with his son Owen. Key Households: Royal house of O'Reyne - The ruling house of Olaran, whose last king, Randar, was the final linear descendant of his house. When he died, his line died with him, though it lives on in some distant cousins, and, as the Kingsmen claim, in his (purported) brother Bryce. Topography: Generally a region of plains and grasslands, with a small region of forests on its western border near the Fire Mountains. Its eastern border is the Keldaran River. Economy: The majority of the province consists of farmlands that produce grain. The capital city is a trade hub due to its access to the Keldaran River, on which resources and goods are shipped between the northern lands of the Kingdom, neighboring Arkadia to the east, and Goltha to the south. A majority of the wealth in the region is due to taxes collected from the other 8 Provinces. It is the political center to the Kingdom of Olaran. Major Cities: Olaran - The Capital City of the Kingdom of Olaran, this vast city is surrounded by walls on all sides, and has some of the highest towers in the kingdom. It is a trade hub for the kingdom’s goods that are shipped along the Keldaran River. Other Cities: Delcour - A city on the Keldaran River that is a popular stop for those travelling between the Capitol and Greyton Ferry. Sometimes known as the Northern Gateway and is of strategic importance in protecting the capital. It is the sister city of Smit in the south. Blackthorn - The westernmost city of Olaran, this city sits at the end of a small river that starts in the eastern leg of the Grimmock Mountains. It is a hub for farmers and traders from The Highlands to the west and the farmlands of Olaran to its east. Locations of Note: The Royal Palace - Seat of power in Olaran, houses the royal family and the Throne’s Council. The Academy of the Kingsmen - Many of the high houses of the kingdom send their best and bravest young to serve in the capital. They begin their training at the Royal Academy of Kingsmen, where they are educated by scholars from all over Adrasil and steeped in the ceremony and protocol of the court. Conflicts with Goltha and Arkadia have instilled in the people of this region a warrior spirit and a strong sense of national pride. They are the first line of defense against invasion and evidence of their combative nature can be seen in their culture and lifestyle. Key Households: House of the Duke of Lannock Topography: A mix between the foothills of the Fire Mountains and fertile grasslands along the river Murnock and Keldaran River Economy: Metalwork (due to their proximity to the Mines of Murnock), Farming, Livestock Major Cities: Lannock - The capital of the region of Lannock and the seat of the Duke of Lannock. A well fortified city with a strong position on the Murnock River, it works as a defensive location for locals as well as a trade town for the rest of the region. Other Cities: Pelo - One of the trading towns along the Keldaran River. Bash Tiar - A strongly fortified city and a bastion of defense for all trade routes leading by river into Olaran. Known for its great fortress. Smit - Known as the Southern Gateway, Smit is the largest trading stop on the southern Keldaran River and is the sister city of Delcour in the north. The Bickerburg Hills are covered in berries and indigieuonous gathering plants while closer to the Keldaran River it’s soil is rich for the planting of tobacco. Known for throwing many festivals to celebrate Luminos, the King, and the bounty of nature, it is one of the more pleasant places to live in the kingdom. Key Households: The House of Aldur - A relatively new household, the Aldur family gained prominence under King Ossric during his relatively peaceful reign. Topography: Rolling hills and pleasant valleys with a few small forests mixed in. Economy: Tobacco, Berries and Herbs Major Cities: Greyton Ferry - A trading town on the Keldaran River that sprawls along the river for a few miles, known for its many taverns, pubs, and inns for weary travelers or avid alcohol enthusiasts. Locations of Note: The Bickerburg Hills - Rolling foothills of the Grimmock Mountains, flush with many unique flora. Often referred to as “the Kingdom inside the kingdom” this province derives its strongly independent status through an internally strong economy and a balance of agriculture, livestock, and textiles. It is also home to the largest wineries in the kingdom and is the source of other alcohol related resources such as honey, barley, and hops. Despite their self reliance, the people of Thornwood are fiercely loyal to the Kingdom of Olaran and have ties to the royal family through various marriages throughout its history. Key Households: The House of Thornwood - While under one name, the House of Thornwood comprises of several noble families who have come together under one name to best benefit their people. Loyal and honorable, association with the Thornwood name is often used as a bartering tool amongst merchants and vassals alike. Their seat is actually split between the three main cities of the region providing them the benefit of oversight into almost every detail of what goes on in their province. Topography: Farmland, with many groves of fruit trees both wild and tended by farmers. Economy: Textiles, Wine, Beer, Mead, Cider, and various Agriculture. Major Cities: Norn - One of the three seats of power for the nobles who control Thornwood. The largest city, it has solid walls and a well traveled port. So’l - Another port city built around trade, there are also some shipyards for merchant vessels and scouting ships, though no major warships are built here. Becklin - The smallest of the three seats of power, Becklin is more of a large estate as opposed to a town. It was designed with the purpose of convening the Thornwood nobles regularly, and is therefore built to accomodate a large host. It also has a reasonable garrison as it borders the Kingdom of Goltha to the south. Locations of Note: The Thornwood - Though more of a collection of smaller forests as opposed to one large one, the Thornwood holds a prominent place in the ceremonies of the Old Ways. Travelers will often stumble into strange runes carved into trees or stone structures erected for unknown reasons. It is a place of ancient majesty and, for many, a place of old magic. Today that magic seems to have faded, however, with only the occasional disappearance to mar the otherwise gentle nature of the wood. The Great Mead Hall - situated in the middle of the Thornwood, the Mead Hall was the site of the first, second, and third battles of the Thornwood (in Yl 1120, 1121, and 1122 respectively) and the coronations of the monarchs of the Three Realms in YL 1122 - King Bryce of Olaran, King Torvin of Throi, and Queen Tove of the Hearthlands. It is a harsh mountainous region with many treacherous paths and difficult passes. Those who chose to live here tie their lives almost entirely to the mines for work and life, either doing the mining itself, transporting materials, or manufacturing items from the metal. Due to the value of the region it has become a habit to have a strong military presence to deter brigands or the more ambitious neighboring kingdoms from trying to take their area. Since YL 1121, Murnock has been claimed by the Hearth-Guard as part of their new realm of the Hearthlands. Key Households: The House of Kelroya - Descended from the mountain folk that made the Fire Mountains their home before the unification of Olaran, this family is deeply rooted in the ruling and work in the province. Topography: Nearly all mountains, with the limited access to the rest of Olaran Economy: Mining, Metal work, Precious Metals and Stones Major Cities: Murnock - The regions capital and located near the largest mines and creating a barrier between them and the outside world. Places of Interest: The Mines of Murnock - The largest collection of mines and tunnels and deeply coveted by the Kingdom of Goltha to the south. The Fire Mountains - Some of the highest and most dangerous peaks in Adrasil. The Temple of Luminos - Set on the highest peak of the Fire Mountains, the temple of Luminos is a site only those worthy of making the difficult pilgrimage can behold. Built to be as close to Lord of Light as humanly possible, it is a testament to his worshippers devotion to him and his teachings. Follow the Leader Once a Ranger of the Borderlands, Hugo built his legacy on results, not ideals. Leading a unit of less than desirables and ne'er-do-wells, their endeavors were marked by his reluctance to speak of them. Known for his pragmatic ruthlessness, he protected the Borderlands through calculated decisions and swift action—earning respect, if never affection. After two decades of service, he laid down his weapons and retired to Ravenfall as a game warden, seeking peace among the wild herds and quiet woods. However, the unrest caused by Killian's assertions saw civil war erupt and cost many a great deal, and few even more. Returning to arms to try and direct the more reckless ambitions that civil unrest can bring to bear, Hugo joined the war with his former force. When The Order was reformed, Hugo saw the advantages a militant force that fought for higher ideals, and answered to no ruler, could provide for his personal cause. Joining at its inception, Hugo would become Knights Commander under Killian, and take up the mantle of High Marshall upon Killian's ascension to Regent. Over the years, Val proved herself as a skilled and trusted warrior in the Sea Lord’s service, but the call of her ancestral roots eventually grew too strong to ignore. Learning of an ancestor who had once served the Wold Folk and hearing the urgent plea of her dear friend, Chieftain Rollo Brennus, to defend the sacred forest, Val made the bold decision to leave her sister and the Sea Lords behind. Olaran was unified by the great king Alirion centuries ago, but in recent years civil war and rebellion have split the kingdom. This year, players will choose a faction, each of which is striving to protect their own interests, as well as the interests of those they represent. The Hearthguard have established their own realm and named it “The Hearthlands” while the Sea Lords have claimed their ancient realm of Throi by rebelling against the Kingdom of Olaran. The Kingdom of Olaran is now split with internal conflict, with the Rangers supporting the Regency Government, while the Kingsmen back their own king. For now, the Order of Luminos supports the cause of the people and fights alongside the Rangers, while the Themisians support their ancient allies, the Sea Lords. Holding firm to their alliance, the Wold Folk fight alongside the Kingsmen, hoping to preserve their ancient tribal territory. In this cinematic setting, you will have the chance to immerse yourself into a gritty, realistic fantasy world and explore it with your friends... and enemies!
